John Silk - Kerikeri Half Marathon Tour 2013

The Kerikeri Half Marathon is run through beautiful countryside over undulating roads with views over the Bay of Islands, enthusiastic local support and treats along the way, ending in the township with crowds of people out to enjoy the day.  You can make it tough and go for a PB on this course or take it as easy as you like.  Staying at nearby Paihia feels like you’re just on holiday in the Bay of Islands.  Combining these things on an organised GetRunning Tour made for a memorable weekend. After getting back I feel like I’ve been away for a lot longer!

Meeting the group at the GetRunning studio on Friday morning and putting on exclusive tour jackets the bonding and excitement begins.  Running coach and mini-bus driver Gaz Brown has a mission to make sure everyone knows what’s happening and has a good time!  He is supported by our trainer Kiri Price who has all the details sorted.  Then we collect our Hostess Kerre McIvor – the entertainment kicks off and the laughter doesn’t stop!

The weather was amazing which was a big bonus but every part of the whole trip was enjoyed from the café stops on the road, the luxury resort at Paihia, pre event dinner, hotel breakfasts, the transport to and from the run and after party, refreshments in the support tent after the run, great stories, shared glory, wine tasting and gourmet lunch in a beautiful vineyard setting, relaxing around the pool and spa.  Great company and lots of fun in a well organised but relaxed style. I feel very lucky to have had this experience.
